Wesley & Patrice Tie the Knot

Wesley and Patrice decided rather than doing a day of events with family and friends with large florals and sparklers, they’d prefer to meet at the Howard County Courthouse to wed, and do portraits at Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. Our session started in the Bishop’s Garden, with the surreal backdop of greenery, and stone stairs leading to one of America’s most notable cathedrals.

Petrice and Wesley met almost 5 years ago while Petrice was in the area for her undergraduate degree from Morgan State University. Through the process, time and love took its course until Wesley surprised Petrice on the steps of the memorial at national mall. This is not only a beautiful love story, but also a magic unification of two realtors working hard to become the top earners in their industry.

Though it was a pretty warm day on the steps of the cathedral, it was important that time and reflection be the priority for a few minutes rather than Patrice and Wesley going through the formalities. So with that being said the Jimmy Choo shoes and the Calvin Klein suit jacket came off as they reflected

Washington DC is home to many historic landmarks, but few are as impressive as the National Cathedral. With its soaring spires and magnificent stained glass windows, it’s a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. And for one Black couple, it was the perfect backdrop for their wedding portraits.

After getting married at the courthouse, the couple decided to take some portraits at the National Cathedral. And with good reason – the Cathedral is not only beautiful, but it also has a lot of symbolic meaning. As a national landmark, it represents the power and strength of our nation. But for this couple, it also represented their own personal journey.

As Black Americans, they knew that their ancestors had been brought to this country against their will. And yet, here they were, standing in front of one of the most iconic symbols of American power and freedom. It was a powerful moment, and one that they wanted to capture in their wedding portraits.

The couple wore traditional wedding attire, with the bride in a stunning white gown and the groom in a sharp black suit. Against the backdrop of the Cathedral, they looked like royalty. But more than that, they looked happy – happy to be together, happy to be celebrating their love, and happy to be in such a beautiful place.

The photos captured the grandeur of the Cathedral, with its towering spires and intricate stonework. But they also captured the intimacy of the couple’s relationship, with shots of them holding hands, gazing into each other’s eyes, and sharing a laugh. It was a perfect blend of grandeur and intimacy, and it truly showcased the beauty of the Cathedral and the couple’s love.

In a world that often tries to diminish the worth and value of Black lives and relationships, these photos are a powerful statement. They show that Black love is just as valid and beautiful as any other love, and that it deserves to be celebrated in grand, historic places like the National Cathedral.

We can only hope that these photos inspire other couples – Black, white, or any other race – to celebrate their love in similarly grand and meaningful ways. And we can be grateful that the National Cathedral exists as a symbol of our nation’s strength and unity, and as a backdrop for beautiful wedding portraits like these.
